Why

A Christian may wonder why he or she has to serve God.

The truth is that every born-again Christian should serve God because he or she is a priest of the King of all kings.

“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”
[1 Peter 2:9]

Every born-again Christian is:

I) a Child of God

“Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.”
[1 John 5]

II) a Disciple of Jesus

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
[Matt 28:19-20]

III) a Citizen of Heaven

“I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God
so that you may know that you have eternal life.”
[1 John 5:13]

This is God's love for us.

Although God loves us when we are still sinners (with unconditional love), God does not want us to remain the same after we are born again. In this sense, God’s love is conditional: if we love God, we need to obey His commands.

“This is love for God: to obey his commands.
And his commands are not burdensome,….”
[1 John 5:3]

A Child of God

Being a child of God simply means that one should use his or her life to glorify God. One should shine for God in order that people will see my good deeds and praise my Father in Heaven.

“In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”
 [Matt 5:16]

Indeed, everything that we do, in our thoughts, in our speeches and in our actions, we should do it unto the Lord. Hence we need to conduct ourselves in a manner that is worthy of a Child of God.

“He who regards one day as special, does so to the Lord. He who
eats meat, eats to the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he
who abstains, does so to the Lord and gives thanks to God.”
[Rom 14:6]

A Disciple of Jesus

Jesus’ last command to His followers was in [Matt. 28:19-20].

“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them
in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
[Matt 28:19-20]

As a Disciple of Jesus, one should follow Jesus’ life example

One should obey Jesus teachings, especially His last command of “go and make disciples of all nations.” This indeed is the vision and goal of Hope International Ministries.

A Citizen of Heaven

As a Christian, one knows what the future holds and where one is going.

We have already read the ending of the book.

A Christian’s name is found in the Book of Life and he or she will spend eternity with God and all the loved ones and friends.

Our life on earth is but a brief moment compared to eternity. So one should not worry about the short time one is spending on earth, no matter how troublesome it is.

“For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us
an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”
[2 Cor 4:17]
